8.5 mile hike/2251' elevation gain, located up Hwy 74 (Palms to Pines Hwy) off Fobes Saddle Rd (a 4 mile dirt road to trailhead).
Ellen beginning our Fobes Saddle to Spitler Peak hike. Up Hwy 74 from Palm Desert and just after passing Morris Ranch Rd we turned north driving through a metal gate and continuing on the longest 4 mile dirt road before parking to begin our hike. I'd been on this hike once before and remember that where you park to begin the hike is not obvious. At the end of the 4 miles look for a faint trail on your right and park to your left. The sign pictured above is only visible if you hike in a bit on the trail. We were the only parked car which was a good thing as there really was only room for 2 other cars to park on this curve of the dirt road. The dirt road continues to private property and a closed gate.
